Adult Day Care — An Alternative to TLC?

Do you and your loved one deserve a DAY-cation? OF COURSE YOU DO!!

Adult day care centers are growing in popularity and are even being recognized as a much needed alternative to long-term care. As the number of our aging population continues to grow, long-term care centers are reaching maximum capacity, leaving caregivers questioning who will help them with their older loved one's needs.

Adult day care centers ARE NOT senior centers. While senior centers offer social, recreational and educational opportunities, they are limited in providing support services for older adults. Adult day care centers on the other hand, offer a specific environment for the safety and comfort of older adults with disabilities, Dementia and Alzheimers. In addition to social, recreational and educational opportunities attendees recieve specialized care for their condition.

Benefits of adult day care...

  • Caregiver respite

  • Structured activities

  • Prevents Isolation

  • Live in own home longer

  • Secure and safe environment

  • Specially trained staff

  • Nutritious meals and snacks

  • Medication management

  • Basic health assistance

Adult day care isn't all out of pocket either - HOORAY!!  Many care centers contract with long-term care insurance, Medicaid, and the VA to help cover costs.

By now you are asking, "Where do I find an adult day care center near me?" Glad you asked. The US Administration on Aging Eldercare Locator is a good place to start. State and local Area Agencies on Aging may also maintain directories for centers near you. I am fortunate enough to live close to Daybreak Senior Services here in Utah. Morgan with Daybreak has educated me on the benefits of adult day care centers, so much so, I felt the need to share my knowledge with you!

If you wonder if an adult day care center could be a good fit for your loved one, call me and let's talk about it.
